Other info:

Mindful Recovery-Lincoln is a support and discussion group for people working through recovery issues. The focus is on substance abuse and mental health, but any life issue can be addressed. The group is facilitated by Angie Apthorpe, LADC/PLMHP.
Everyone who is interested in using the practice of mindfulness to increase wellness is welcome to attend. Any meeting attendee can propose a topic for discussion. No experience in meditation or other prerequisites are required—just come as you are. If you have a meditation cushion or seat you are welcome to bring it. Otherwise, chairs and mats are provided.
The first half-hour to 45 minutes of group time is spent discussing an issue related to mindfulness and recovery. The last part of the meeting is spent in meditation. We get much of our information for the group from Eastern traditions, especially Buddhism, which has a history of using mindfulness as a spiritual practice. But we use contributions from any religious, spiritual, or secular tradition.
Mindful Recovery techniques can be used successfully by anyone in recovery. Many find the approach to be a good accompaniment to their current recovery process, such as 12-step programs and cognitive-behavioral therapy.
