DESCRIPTION:The Insight Recovery Sangha will meet monthly on Zoom and is for anyone (self-identified) who is working with strong cravings or addictions. We will meditate\, hear short dharma talks related to Buddhist teachings and recovery\, and share candidly with each other in community. SUMMARY:Buddhist Daylong with Kathy Cherry - Finding Stability in the Current
DESCRIPTION:Sponsored by PA Recovery Dharma & Friends \n\nBuddhist Daylong with Kathy Cherry (Dharma Punx NYC)\n\n\nIn Buddhist teachings\, there is a story of a person being carried by currents in a strong river\, reaching for reeds and branches that cannot keep them from being washed further down stream. This reflects how\, when we feel agitated or out of sorts\, we often cling to familiar thoughts\,tendencies\, feelings\, and identities\, even when they no longer help. \nIn this daylong retreat\, we’ll explore this metaphor as a way to better understand ourselves\, our nervous system and how the body responds to stress. We’ll also look at how the Dharma works hand in hand with this desire for a felt sense of safety\, offering practical guidance for meeting difficulties with awareness\, kindness\, and wisdom. Together\, these perspectives help us recognize our survival patterns as natural\, intelligent efforts to find stability and protection. \nThroughout the day\, you’ll be invited to slow down\, practice\, and notice your direct experience. Through guided meditations\, mindfulness\, Somatic Experiencing® techniques\, relational practices\, guided inquiry\, and group reflection\, you’ll learn to tune into sensation\, move at a supportive pace\, and create the conditions for your system to settle and restore balance so that wisdom can emerge. \nAs steadiness deepens\, insight and choice become more accessible. This retreat is open to everyone\, and all practices are gentle\, optional\, and adaptable to your individual needs. \n\nLocation & details – see registration page

SUMMARY:Freedom Within: Mindfulness Tools for Sustaining Recovery – April 2026
DESCRIPTION:A Buddhist Meditation Retreat for People in Recovery \nDeadline for enrollment extended to April 15th! \nExperience a path toward genuine freedom through Buddhist mindfulness practices designed to support ongoing recovery from impulses and compulsive patterns. This supportive retreat offers ancient wisdom tools to help interrupt cycles of craving\, urges\, triggers\, and habitual behaviors. Participants will learn to meet challenges with mindful awareness rather than automatic reactions\, cultivating an inner sense of safety\, grounding\, and resilience that supports long-term recovery. Please note: This retreat is not a substitute for direct treatment for active addiction. It is intended for participants who are already in recovery—ideally with at least one year on their recovery journey—particularly if their experiences with craving\, urges\, triggers\, or compulsive patterns relate to substance use or process addictions. Family members of individuals experiencing active addiction are also welcome\, as the retreat aims to deepen understanding of the roots of addiction and strengthen supportive pathways for recovery. \nRead more at the event sign up and information link

SUMMARY:Transforming the Heart
DESCRIPTION:April BRN Academy\nSUNDAY April 5\, 2026 at 10AM PST  \nWith BRN Board President Walt Opie \nTransforming the Heart\nBoth Buddhist practice and recovery from addiction point to an inner transformation of the heart. As practicing addicts\, our hearts may have been pretty shut down\, which we may not even realize until it starts to open in recovery\, perhaps quite slowly at first. One of the wonderful things about Buddhist practice is that we learn we can train the heart through certain practices like lovingkindness (metta). Then we realize we’re not practicing Buddhist recovery for ourselves alone–we’re also learning how to benefit others. In fact\, the Buddha encouraged us to be a refuge for all beings. \n\n\nMore About the Academy \nThe Academy has invited some of the leading teachers in the field of Buddhist recovery. On the first Sunday of every month for an hour each teacher will explore the sharp edges of suffering through the lens of the Buddhist Teachings. \nThe Academy brings together teachers from different Buddhist lineages and approaches. Themes like addiction\, alcoholism\, depression\, stinking thinking and compulsive behaviors will be explored. \nDuring this event we will meditate\, listen to the teaching\, then have time for a Q & A at the end. \nDana\nThis event is offered freely\, but signing up with any donation helps support the Buddhist Recovery Network mission to promote the use of Buddhist teachings and practices to help people recover from the suffering caused by addictive behaviors . Your support will also allow us to connect with you and send you a reminder\, 24 hours and 1 hour before the event. \nZOOM LINK\nClick to Join via this Zoom Link  \nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/87579202512?pwd=b3PXF6s4kd3HHgoqSeZNzNDhzdcYnw.1 \nMeeting ID: 875 7920 2512  and passcode: 414176

SUMMARY:Insight Recovery Sangha
DESCRIPTION:The Insight Recovery Sangha will meet monthly on Zoom and is for anyone (self-identified) who is working with strong cravings or addictions. We will meditate\, hear short dharma talks related to Buddhist teachings and recovery\, and share candidly with each other in community. The purpose of this group is to foster community and learn how to apply teachings on mindfulness\, compassion and wisdom to our recovery program. \nThe emphasis will be on how craving causes suffering and how cultivating insight into the nature of craving can greatly ease our suffering\, and help us lead more peaceful and contented lives. We have no affiliations with any other organizations and this is not a 12-Step group\, although various known addiction recovery modalities may be referred to from time to time. \nThis group is open to everyone. There is no need to qualify for membership when you introduce yourself to the group. However\, we do believe this group will work best for those committed to a life free from substance abuse and harmful addictive behaviors. \nThe teachers\, Walt Opie and Dalila Bothwell\, will serve as group facilitators\, dharma teachers\, and sangha (community) members. Over time\, there will be guest teachers\, as well. \nThere is no fee to enroll in the Insight Recovery Sangha. If you would like to support this program or your teachers\, you may make an offering within the program platform after you enroll. \nEnroll at\nims.dharma.org/courses/insight-recovery-sangha-2025
